SAP just banned the AI that could help you leave.
Their new API policy (published April 27, 2026) explicitly prohibits use of SAP APIs for “interaction or integration with (semi-)autonomous or generative AI systems that plan, select, or execute sequences of API calls.”
That is not a security clause.
That is a ban on migration tooling. Schema mapping. Data extraction. The exact category of AI that makes switching platforms tractable.
At the same time, SAP promotes Joule — their own AI agent — without restriction.
There are two types of AI emerging in enterprise software.
AI that helps the vendor keep you in.
AI that helps you understand your data and move it.
SAP just told you which one gets API access.
Have you checked your platform’s API policy lately?
