The Art of Delegation: Toddler Edition

For the past two months, I’ve been flying solo at home while my wife is off on a work adventure overseas.

It’s just me, our 1-year-old, and our 3-year-old—and let me tell you, delegating has become my superpower.

I used to help my kids with a lot of things, especially when we were in a rush.

But now, being the lone adult in the house, I’ve taken “letting them do it themselves” to a whole new level.

Sure, it might take 10 minutes to put on a shoe, but hey, I’ve got time. And the bonus? I get to sit back and watch them strut around like they’ve conquered the world—shoe on the wrong foot and all.

It’s amazing how much more relaxed I am when I let them handle the small stuff.

Plus, they love it. I mean, who knew watching a 1-year-old “help” fold laundry could be so entertaining?

And nothing beats the sight of a determined 3-year-old confidently dragging a garbage bag twice their size out the door without dropping a thing. Watching them tackle that task like a pro is both impressive and hilarious.

Delegation isn’t just a workplace buzzword—it’s a survival tactic for a dad running the household alone. And if toddlers can rise to the occasion, there’s hope for all of us.

What is your parent superpower?
